James “Leland” Cook, 70, passed from this world into heaven on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, just shy of his 71st birthday.  Leland was born November 5, 1950 in Oklahoma City to James Lee and Goldie Marie (Looney) Cook.  Leland attended Oklahoma State University and was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School class of 1969.  Growing up in the Oklahoma City area Leland also attended Jackson Junior High and Columbus Elementary. Leland retired from AT&T after a career of 36 years.  Leland was an ‘old car’ enthusiast working on his first Model A Ford as a teenager.  Leland also enjoyed Flathead V-8 Fords.  The family spent many vacations seeing the United States traveling in a 1939 Deluxe Fordor Sedan. Leland also loved seeing the countryside from the seat of his Harley Davidson traveling to Sturgis and Daytona Beach on numerous occasions as well as HOG Rally’s in Canada and Old Mexico.  Leland enjoyed hunting, trap shoots and fishing, especially Trout along the Illinois River.  Leland was a member of the ‘ROMEO’ breakfast club – ‘Retired Old Men Eat Out’.  Leland liked to make people laugh and could be depended upon to come up with a story or joke.  Leland enjoyed helping other people.  Leland was a generous person.  He often gave of his time to work on others antique autos, and was often a surrogate dad to daughter Amy’s sorority sisters.  Leland enjoyed being an anonymous contributor to those in need.  Leland is preceded in death by his parents and sister, JoAnn Lester.  Leland is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie Chandler Cook, and daughter Amy Cook Fisher, husband Jonathan and grandsons Cecil and Ira. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ‘Missions’ or ‘Reset’ offerings at First Baptist Church-Yukon.  Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021 and 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home, Yukon, OK. His life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, at the First Baptist Church, 15 S. 6th St., Yukon, OK. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center immediately following the service.
